Melbourne Wedding photographers are well looked after by Montsalvat, a wedding venue in Melbourne's North East. A funky, hippie artists' colony founded last century, this delightful place is a wedding photography playground, with a diverse selection of photographer opportunities in any weather or light.
The Montsalvat wedding photo shown here, was taken in the still of an Autumn night- during an Autumn wedding shoot.
Absolutely spoiled for choice, we made haste around the grounds in the time we had, and took advantage of the beautiful settings and glorious, fading Autumn sunlight.
The bride and groom disappeared- unnoticed- from their Montsalvat Great Hall Wedding Reception, and had some nightshots taken around the eastern end of the property.
These newlyweds didn't have a bridal party- several close friends shared readings- and stories- during the ceremony and exercised great restraint in delivering anecdotes about the bridal couple. There was potential for jaws to drop, but delightful, articulate and well restrained presenters ensured only eyebrows were raised.

Wedding photography can present the wedding photographer with an unexpected curve ball- and we certainly got one here, at this recent Bram Leigh wedding.
We should be thankful that the football wasn't wearing a bridal gown- that would have made quite a story- and photo. As it was, there was lots of fun to be had by newlyweds, football, wedding photographer, and all concerend.
The football was introduced by the best man, who brought it along as a stress reliever- and since nobody was stressed- we thought the footy deserved its moment of glory, especially as it wasn't out of bounds even once.

This piano makes a visually appealing background prop in this wedding photo, taken a Forest Edge Restaurant. The Forest Edge Weddings Gallery page has photography from the restaurant, showing the interior and exterior of the reception venue, from all different perspectives. The spectacular views of twilight across the Yarra Valley can be seen through the windows in the background.
Speaking of windows- and wedding photography... there's a window of about 60 minutes for autumn and winter weddings in Melbourne to take advantage of the receding natural light. This can be used to advantage by the wedding photographer. The outdoor ambient light and indoor artificial light can be balanced off against each other, to create and amazing array of colours. Having a lovely bridal car in a beautiful setting like this venue, or being outside in spectacular natural light, will make for stunning photography every time, whether it's sunny, cloudy or raining heavily.
Wedding photography depends on light, as one of the contributing factors to the final image. To some extent, wedding photographers can manufacture their own light on a shoot- which can opens up more possibilities than the natural light provides. The Forest Edge Wedding gallery features images from this Melbourne reception venue, tucked away in a close but quiet corner of the Yarra Valley.
There are decisions to be made when shooting in a place like this. Light changes dramatically and very quickly. Wedding photography spots rise and fall in their merit, on the back of a ray of light. Wedding photographers need to move quickly and with knowledge of the venue and surroundings to create the opportunities for the best photos.
If you are considering your wedding photography locations- if you are one of the visitors to this website lucky enough to not be concerned with a schedule that has already been set in stone- we urge you to make every effort to ensure that you have allowed enough time for wedding photography. Read about time for photography, and how much to allow on our best wedding photography time allocation tips page for more information.
Ideally, 90 minutes in a location like the one we have shown here, is ideal. This enabled you to savour it- to enjoy the moment. You will find that the wedding day was a constant "pace setter", and that you will have spent very little time alone together. Some relaxed time during your wedding photography session could be the answer- allowing you both to reflect on how the day has progressed thus far, away from the guests and bridal party.
